It was cold, wet and overcast today so I decided to fill my pockets with blue to match the weather. I quickly realized that I don’t have very much blue in my arsenal of everyday carry goodies. I managed to come up with a couple of blue folders but no blue pens, watches, multitools or wallets.
Do you have much blue gear in your EDC collection? Most of my knives have either black or raw titanium/stainless steel silver handles. Then there’s OD green and camo, followed by orange. I think I’ll try to add a few more colors to the collection to spice things up a little.
Blue Everyday Carry Gear
Starting from the top is an older, discontinued Kizer Cutlery folding knife with the easy to forget name of the Ki401T. It still has the old Kizer logo on the blade. The recurve/tanto blade in S35VN is a thing of beauty. It’s one of the first knives that I bought from Kizer and I’ve never been tempted to sell it as I think it’s a great folder. There was also a blacked out version of the same knife which I did sell and I still regret today. We can’t keep everything though!
The next knife down is the Rike Knife Thor 4s integral frame lock flipper. It’s a tiny little thing, almost too small to flip, but wow, it’s so well made. The detail and precision that it’s made with is mesmerizing. Machined from a solid slab of titanium, every part of the handle has been thought about and worked on. The little M390 blade is a nice slicey dicer too.
Below the Rike folder is a MecArmy TPX33 tactical pen with a glass breaker. It’s made of TC4 titanium and uses Fisher Space Pen refills. I’ve been buying the bold refills lately as I like how the ink flows much more freely. The default for FSP refills is Medium, but give Bold a try too. I like to doodle and draw with my pens so I use them a lot. Here’s an EDC pen drawing..
Back to the EDC photo, the multi-tool to the left is a CRKT Get-a-Way Driver with a Torx set and bottle opener. I can’t remember how much I paid for it but it was super cheap and I have a few of them sitting around in different locations.
The bottom left is a TurboFlame Ranger lighter with twin laser jet flames coming out of it. This thing lights anything anywhere. Big fat cigars in the wind are not a problem with this little baby. The flame is adjustable too so I don’t recommend leaving it on blow-torch mode (high) as it’ll chew through the gas pretty quickly.
A little Leatherman Brewzer pocket tool is down the bottom center. I used to have it on my keys as bottle opener. Apart from opening bottles it also opens paint tins and is good for cleaning your finger nails. I would like to say it also puts my socks on and makes me coffee of a morning, but no, it’s a simple tool with limited function. It does what it’s supposed to though.
And last but certainly not least is my go to watch at the moment, the Casio G-Shock GA-2100-1A. People have nicknamed it the CasiOak after the resemblance of the Royal Oak watch by Audemars Piguet. There have been a few new models of the GA-2100 released lately. There’s an OD green model, the GA-2110SU-3A which may eventually find its way into my EDC collection.
