I really didn’t buy a whole lot of knives in 2019 as I have spent the year in Istanbul, Turkey but I’ll be returning to Australia soon so I’ve been thinking about what to buy when I get home. Three new knives from Spyderco in 2020 include a folder with LC200N steel, a lightweight Tenacious, and a utility type kitchen knife.
They’re not super exciting knives that I’m sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for but I’ll definitely pick up one of each as I like something about all of them.
Spyderco Siren – New for 2020
The second knife Spyderco have made with professional kayak fisherman Lance Clinton is the Siren folding knife (C247G). If the design looks familiar you may have seen his first release, the Waterway fixed blade knife.
Just as with his Waterway knife, the new Siren uses a rust proof blade of LC200N. If you’re a professional fisherman in a kayak all day you’re not going to want a knife that will rust.
The G-10 handle has more texture than usual which will help with grip in all conditions. A protruding integral guard will prevent any forward slippage of the hand. Lock up is a secure back lock mechanism.
The new Spyderco Siren has an overall length of 8.75″ or 22.2cm and a blade length of 3.61″ or 9.2cm. MSRP will be about $240 USD.
So it’s an ideal fishing knife obviously, but it also sounds good for other water sports, hiking, outdoors, and camping. Situations where the knife might get wet and you don’t want to be worrying about the blade rusting or your hand slipping.

Spyderco Tenacious Lighweight – New for 2020
Spyderco have been hitting it out of the park with their lightweight releases this year. With knives like the Para3, Police 4, and Sage 5 also coming out in lightweight versions and being lapped up by knife lovers, I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing more of the Spyderco range having a lightweight option in the future. I’m thinking the Para Military 2 or the Military would also be ideal knives for a lightweight model.
The original G10 version of the Spyderco Tenacious was the folder that started me on my knife journey. It was the first knife that I paid a decent amount for and it was the start of my love affair with Spyderco and all things sharp. It turned out that my “decent amount” for a knife was only enough to get me a Chinese made budget folder from Spyderco but it was enough to bring me to this point where I’m now addicted to knives.
Everything is the same as the original model except for the lightweight FRN or fiberglass reinforced nylon scales. So there will be more grip with the bi-directional texture on the handle and the Tenacious Lightweight (C122BK) will come in at about 10 percent lighter than the G-10 model.
It will still have the liner lock, same full flat grind 8Cr13MoV steel blade, and it will be made in China as it’s from the budget folder range of knives. The new Tenacious will also have three options for the blade: PlainEdge, CombinationEdge and the SpyderEdge.
The Tenacious Lightweight will be an awesome introduction knife for those just getting started in the knife hobby. I don’t like the term beater knife as I try to look after my knives, but that’s what I’ll use mine for. With an MSRP of just $65 USD you’ll pick them up cheaper at places like Blade HQ and Amazon.
Spyderco Counter Puppy – New for 2020
A new addition to the Spyderco kitchen series of knives for 2020 is the Counter Puppy (K20). They’re a quirky design that can stand upright on the counter because of the thick handle and the legs on the guard and butt of the knife. This gives it a cute puppy dog look and keeps the blade off of the counter.
The injection molded high impact plastic handles will come in blue and purple. Blade steel is 7Cr17 and will come in either the Spyderco PlainEdge or the fully serrated SpyderEdge models. They’ll have an overall length of 6.95″ or 17.7cm and a blade length of 3.46″ or 8.8cm.
With the more budget friendly materials being used and the Counter Puppies being made in China they’ll have an MSRP of $30 USD. Check them out on Blade HQ or Amazon.
